People now need to run on treadmills or cycle on stationary bikes just to burn off the excess food that they have consumed. Quite often, the tendency to overeat could also have mental causes. Therefore, the need for mental hygiene once again needs to be stressed.

Exercise Routines

It is important to follow a healthy exercise regimen to keep the body in top working order. A sedentary lifestyle could lead to a number of health complications. Today’s office environments are a leading cause for this condition. People therefore need to give their bodies a total workout to be in good health. In order to stick to a strict schedule, the role of the mind is again involved. The mind is therefore instrumental in maintaining a healthy body.

If you feel that your diet leaves you lacking in some essential nutrients consider supplementation as an alternative.

In order to control high blood pressure and cholesterol eat whole grains. These are low in fat and high in fiber and vitamins that will help you do this. The risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity has been shown to be reduced by eating as little as three servings per day. Start your morning off by eating oatmeal (not instant) with whole grain toast. In the afternoon instead of snacking on a bag of chips substitute granola or even air popped popcorn.

Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water each day. This will do two important things to help your heart health. First it helps you keep your weight down. The body will sometimes confuse dehydration with hunger and you will tend to eat more than you should. It is also good for your skin. The second way it helps is that doing this will help prevent your blood from thickening. As your blood gets thicker it puts a strain on your heart because it has to work harder to pump blood to areas of the body where it is needed. By drinking an adequate supply of water your heart has to work less.

EXERCISE REGULARLY

Exercise is a very important component of heart health. Aerobic exercise such as walking, bike riding, dancing or running is the best. Remember that when you are considering an exercise program take a moment and think about what you truly enjoy doing. If you enjoy something it is much easier to stick with it over the long run. Regular exercise will help control blood pressure and cholesterol numbers and make your heart and lungs stronger. Along with reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke exercise will also increase stamina and mood.

What this can do is lead to inflammation in the veins and arteries. This can cause scars to form in the arteries and increase the possibility of plaque buildup. This buildup can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. Your goal should be to get eight hours of sleep each night in order to protect your heart as well as keep blood sugar levels under control.

QUIT SMOKING

If you are a smoker it is important that you speak to your doctor and find a way to quit. Nicotine increases the amount of blood that is needed by the heart thus reducing the amount that can flow through the veins to other parts of the body where it is needed. Carbon monoxide will also knock oxygen molecules off red blood cells thus limiting the amount of oxygen which the heart receives. It is important to realize that nothing about smoking is good for heart health.

10 Tips for Healthy Living

There is of course a tremendous amount of science involved in the way the human body works. How it digests and breaks down the nutrients we provide it with, how it converts that into fuel and then subsequently furnishes us with the energy to perform at our physical peak. Anatomy, physiology, biology, diet and nutrition are indeed complex subjects. However, there are also some really simple and straightforward elements for us non-scientists to focus on in our quest for a lean healthy body, and the great news is that they all revolve around one basic concept. Common sense!

Now the term “common sense” is poorly named, as it appears to be not that common at all. However, the following tips are really only based on a few simple concepts and are actually only what most naturally thin people do on a daily basis. Naturally thin people are not doing anything radical, they haven’t got the key to some amazing weight loss potion, and are no smarter on the subject than their overweight buddies. Here are my top 10 tips, try them for 10 days and I pretty much guarantee you will feel better and weigh less.

1: When you feel hungry, eat! I told you this was not rocket science didn’t I? The real key is establishing that what you are actually feeling is hunger. There is always the chance you may actually be dehydrated so as soon as you feel a hunger pang drink a glass of water. If you still feel hungry after that then have a bite to eat.

2: Love water, it’s great! Water is a truly magical elixir that works wonders for your body and your mind. It flushes your system, increases your powers of concentration and ups your energy levels. 8 glasses a day will do the trick.

3: Stop denying yourself. Diet plans have a tendency to be incredibly restrictive which leads to feelings of resentment and frustration and that can’t be good, can it. Remember, a little of what you fancy does you the power of good, so everything in moderation.

4: Chew your food. This little gem should really be obvious, and yet amazingly there are countless people out there who seem to virtually inhale their food. Every part of the digestive process has been meticulously designed to serve a specific purpose, so use it. Chew at least 25 times to give your body the chance to break your food down and digest it properly. Remember, your colon doesn’t have a full set of teeth!

5: It’s not a race. Slow down, there are no prizes up for grabs at the end of your meal. If you rush your food you don’t give your brain the chance to receive the message from your stomach that you’re full up. As a result you just keep on eating and that’s a recipe for some serious weight gain. A good tip would be to practice putting your knife and fork down between each mouthful.

6: Stop finishing the plate. There seems to be a cultural issue in play here whereby it is deemed almost anti-social to leave any food on your plate. Well, get over it! You simply don’t have to eat absolutely everything, if you are feeling full then stop eating, you will have had enough. If you are really against leaving any food then furnish yourself with a doggy bag so you can finish it when you are hungry again.

7: Concentrate on what you are doing. Try to avoid any unnecessary distractions when eating, like watching the TV or chatting and concentrate on enjoying your food. Sitting in front of the TV grazing is an absolute killer for any healthy eating plan

8: Hide the scales. For the love of God please stop weighing yourself every day. All you do is put yourself under unnecessary pressure and that can only lead to disappointment and frustration. Just concentrate on doing the right things and the results will take good care of themselves. Try to avoid weighing yourself any more than once a week, maximum.

9: Write it down. Try to keep a journal and jot down everything you eat over the course of a day. When you first start out you will probably be shocked at how much you actually consume. It really helps to focus your mind on what you are actually trying to achieve as well as being extremely therapeutic. Give it a go.

10: Learn about You. This is probably going to be the toughest of the ten steps to implement. Establishing your body type and the specific dietary requirements for you will take some time and knowledge. Putting a support network in place and determining your goals and dreams can be tough. However, help is at hand.

Remember, knowledge is blah, blah blah until you implement it. Choose one, two or all of these healthy living tips and you’ll be proceeding nicely down the road to greater health.

Top 3 Healthy Living Tips

Each year here in the States, more than 1.5 million people die from heart disease, cancer and stroke. Believe it or not, that’s more than the number of American soldiers who died in the Civil War, Korean War and Vietnam War put together. And it’s happening every year.

If you want to live a long, healthy, happy life, here are the three best healthy living tips to put into practice ASAP.

One – Stop Smoking. Tobacco is a killer. It doesn’t make any difference if you’re using cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco or snuff, tobacco is harmful in all its many forms. Besides lung cancer, tobacco is linked to nearly fifteen other types of deadly cancer. And secondhand smoke is just as dangerous, affecting thousands of people, including children, with asthma, pneumonia, ear infections and sudden infant death syndrome. So, if you smoke or use tobacco in any form, it’s wise to stop ASAP. And stay as far away as you can from anyone else smoking.

Two – Eat a healthy Diet. The Standard American Diet (SAD) of burgers, fries and shakes is responsible for the obesity and nutritional crisis in the U.S and around the world. And excess weight, obesity and unhealthy nutrition are major causative factors in the skyrocketing rates of heart disease, stroke and cancer. Weight problems are linked to higher rates of breast and pancreatic cancer, as well as more than a dozen other cancers.

You can manage your weight and lower your risk of cancer by eating a diet low in fat and high in fiber. Do this by including at least five to nine daily servings of fruit and vegetables along with lots of whole grain breads and cereals. At the same time, cut way back on your intake of alcohol and processed and red meats. Men should limit their alcohol to no more than two drinks a day, women to one or less.

Three – Stay Physically Active. Exercising on a regular basis is just as important as a healthy diet in order to maintain a healthy weight and a reduced risk of cancer. There’s no need to join a gym or health club, as long as get up off of the couch and get moving. A brisk thirty-minute walk around the block four or five days a week is more than sufficient.
